Olexa & Kallmunzerova Collect SSC Accolades

Melbourne, Fla. – Francais Olexa of the Lynn University softball team and Natalie Kallmunzerova of the Fighting Knights women's tennis squad have each been tabbed Sunshine State Conference Players of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.

Olexa picks up Pitcher of the Week honors, marking her first weekly award from the league office this season and second of her career.

Olexa took the circle against No. 22 St. Mary's on Friday and tossed a five-hit complete game, allowing only one run (in the final frame) with one strikeout. She then tossed her first complete game shutout of the season, and fourth of her career, to secure the SSC series victory over Nova Southeastern on Sunday. She scattered four hits while fanning six batters without issuing a walk. She also came on in relief in the series finale and secured the final two outs with NSU threatening to increase its lead.

In addition to her pitching prowess, Olexa was a catalyst for the offense, hitting .467 with a .500 on-base percentage and two multi-hit games.  She went 3-for-4 in the game she pitched and drove in the only run in a 2-1 loss to Florida Tech.

Kallmunzerova, a freshman, secures the first SSC plaudit of her young career. She was the only Fighting Knight to win both of her matches on Friday as Lynn knocked off 17th-ranked Florida Southern in the team's SSC opener, 6-3.

Lynn fell behind 2-1 through doubles play, but Kallmunzerova and partner Eliska Petrackova logged a strong 8-1 victory at the second flight to get their side on the board. 15th-ranked Kallmunzerova picked up her second win of the day with a 7-5, 6-3 decision at the third singles flight. For the season, the Prague, Czech Republic product improves to 5-1 in doubles play and 4-2 in singles.
