Lynn Trio Garners SSC Player of the Week Plaudits

Melbourne, Fla. – Three Lynn University student-athletes were named Sunshine State Conference Players of the Week on Monday, as announced by the league office. Jack Watson and Roberto Bazzichetto were tabbed the men's soccer SSC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, while Toto Gana was named the men's Golfer of the Week.

Watson's recent return to the pitch for the Lynn men's soccer team has proved crucial as the senior tallied both game-winning goals for the Fighting Knights in the squad's 2-0 week on the road. Lynn first went on the road and upset No. 2 ranked Palm Beach Atlantic, 1-0, with Watson knocking home the game's only goal in the 77th minute. At Saint Leo on Saturday, the Lions scored in the final five seconds of regulation to send the game to overtime, but Watson gave Lynn the 2-1 victory near the end of the first overtime period by slotting home a penalty kick for the game-winner.

After missing the majority of last season and the beginning of this season with injuries, Watson's goal at PBA was extra special, marking his first goal since Sept. 10, 2017. Since his debut this season on Sept. 26, Watson has two goals and an assist in four games, including game-winners in the past two outings. The senior forward has notched 24 goals in his Blue and White career, with 14 coming as game-winners.

With five awards in 2016, Watson now has six career SSC Player of the Week awards to his name. Only Aimee Murch (softball) and Chris Hellmann (men's soccer) have more career SSC Player of the Week awards as a Fighting Knight with nine and eight, respectively. Klaudia Boczova (women's tennis) earned five awards at Lynn in 2018 and has six total in her career including one with Nova Southeastern in 2016.

Bazzichetto picked up the first award of his career after solid play between the pipes. The Fighting Knights' goalkeeper posted a shutout on Wednesday night at No. 2 PBA, playing all 90 minutes in net with three critical saves - all from within the six-yard box. Bazzichetto's three saves matched his season-high set in the team's 2-1 win at Alabama-Huntsville on Sept. 9. In the overtime win at Saint Leo, Bazzichetto earned the start and played the first 89:55 before exiting. He currently ranks second in the SSC in goals-against average on the year (.684).

Gana also claims his first career Golfer of the Week award. Gana earned the first tournament victory of his career by taking first place at the NCAA Division II National Preview. Gana shot rounds of 69-67-69 for an eight-under-par 205 against a field that included six teams ranked in the Top-25. The Chilean was only one of three golfers to shoot under par all three rounds. His score is tied for the fifth-lowest 54-hole total in program history.
