Lynn Trio Garners SSC Player of the Week Honors

Melbourne, Fla. – It was another good showing out of the league office for Lynn University athletics as three Fighting Knights were named Sunshine State Conference Players of the Week on Monday. Collin McClelland from men's lacrosse was named Defensive Player of the Week while Kay Bartmann and Leolia Jeanjean sweep the tennis Player of the Week awards for the second consecutive week.

Jeanjean and Bartmann each win the award for a league-best third time this season. With two accolades last year, Bartmann now has five in his career. McClelland wins his second defensive plaudit this season and third of his career.

McClelland became the program's record holder for career saves this weekend as the netminder had a lights-out game to help lead Lynn to a big SSC victory over rival Rollins College. The Fighting Knights picked up their first SSC victory of the year on Saturday, downing the Tars, 10-8. The victory is sweet revenge for the Fighting Knights after the Tars beat Lynn by one goal in each of the last two seasons.

McClelland tallied 13 saves, three ground balls and a caused turnover as the Lynn defense held Rollins to its lowest goal-scoring output so far this season. McClelland now has 297 saves in his three-year career at Lynn, passing Taylor Ferrino ('16) for the program's all-time saves record.

Bartmann secured three victories in a 1-1 week for the men's tennis squad, including a huge singles win over the third-ranked player in the country. The Fighting Knights first fell to No. 1 Barry, 5-2, before bouncing back and sweeping No. 33 Florida Southern, 7-0.

Against Barry, Bartmann went up against No. 3-ranked Pierre Montrieul at the top flight, dominating the Buccaneer in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. Bartmann gets a bit of revenge after losing to Montrieul during the regular season last year, 6-1, 6-0. Against the Mocs, Bartmann and partner Florian Clemares picked up a 7-5 triumph at No. 1 doubles before Bartmann secured another victory at No. 1 singles, taking down Tim Becker, 7-5, 6-3.

It was a dominant week for the Lynn women's tennis team, led by Jeanjean, the squad's top singles and doubles player. The senior won all six of her matches to help the Fighting Knights go 3-0 in SSC play this week. The Blue and White started off with a huge upset on the road over the No. 1 team in the country, Barry, by a score of 5-2. Barry had won 69 consecutive matches over the course of the last two and a half seasons coming into that matchup. Over the weekend, Lynn followed up with 7-0 triumphs at home over No. 12 Florida Southern and Tampa.

Against the Bucs, Jeanjean and Ulyana Grib, playing doubles for the first time together, tallied a 6-4 win at the top flight. In singles, 40th-ranked Jeanjean upset 29th-ranked Carolin Schmidt at the top position, 6-1, 6-4.

Against the Mocs, Jeanjean and Grib followed up with a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles while Jeanjean logged another win over a ranked singles opponent at the top position, downing No. 64 Selin Devrmci, 6-1, 6-0.

Jeanjean and Grib closed out the week with a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles in the match against Tampa before Jeanjean recorded another straight-set win at No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-0). Jeanjean is currently undefeated in both singles (14-0) and doubles (16-0) so far this season.
