Athletic Insurance Information
The Lynn
University Athletic Training staff makes every effort to create the
safest environment possible for athletic participation. Unfortunately,
injuries do occur. As a result, Lynn University has purchased a
secondary insurance policy for all student-athletes. Please note that
our insurance policy only covers injuries sustained during supervised
participation in intercollegiate athletics and that all medical bills are in your name. Refer to the Insurance Claims Procedure for important information regarding your role in assuring all invoices are processed in a timely fashion.
Lynn University requires all student-athletes competing in intercollegiate athletics to provide proof of health insurance coverage prior to any participation. Your personal health insurance plan will act as a primary carrier for all medical coverage. Domestic students who do not have health insurance will be enrolled in a Student Accident and Sickness Insurance Policy offered by the University. All F-1 visa students are required to have Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI) insurance coverage for health, medical evacuation and repatriation during their entire enrollment period.
The Lynn
University Athletics Department’s insurance policy (Bollinger, Inc.) is a
secondary policy, providing up to 100% payment of the medical costs not
covered by your primary insurance, up to $90,000 per intercollegiate
athlete, per year. Coverage provided by Bollinger, Inc. is limited in
its services up to one year exactly past the initial injury date.
All
medical appointments must be pre-approved and arranged by the Lynn
University Athletic Training staff in order to be covered by the
athletic insurance policy.
The Athletic
Training staff will provide appointments or referrals for
non-athletic-related injuries/illnesses, with the understanding that the
student-athlete assumes full financial responsibility for such
appointments.
If a student-athlete's primary insurance does not provide coverage in Palm Beach or Broward County, or does not cover injuries sustained during intercollegiate athletics, Bollinger, Inc. will act as the primary insurance carrier provided proper documentation is submitted. This documentation may include a letter from the parent (s)/guardian(s), a letter from the parent(s)/guardian(s) employer and/or a letter from the student-athlete's primary insurance carrier stating the coverage guidelines. Please note, however, that
Bollinger, Inc. only covers acute athletic-related injuries that occur
while participating in required conditioning, practices or games. Any
other illnesses, pre-existing conditions, appointments necessary for
athletic clearance, or injuries not directly related to athletic
participation are not covered under the athletic department insurance
policy. This includes flu-like illnesses, asthma, cardiac conditions,
etc. Therefore, it is strongly suggested to purchase health insurance
for non-athletic-related injuries your son/daughter may encounter while
away at school. Therefore, it is strongly suggest to purchase health insurance that provides coverage in Palm Beach and Broward Counties for non-athletic related injuries your son/daughter may encounter while away at school.
Please be
sure to completely fill out the Insurance Questionnaire. This
information will be provided to the medical vendors in the event medical
charges do occur. Also, please include a copy of the front and back of
your current insurance card.
On behalf
of the Athletics Department and the Athletic Training staff, thank you
for your cooperation in this important matter. Feel free to contact Jen Eick (561-237-7049) if you have any questions.
