Winter Park, Fla. – A total of 64 Lynn University student-athletes were named to the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the Spring 2013 semester, which was announced Thursday by Commissioner Jay Jones.  Overall, 72 percent of Lynn’s student-athletes recorded a grade-point average of 3.000 or higher and 53 percent with a 3.5000 GPA or better for the Spring semester.

“It is truly amazing that Lynn University’s student-athletes excel in the classroom while also balancing the rigors of competing at such a high level,” Assistant Athletics Director Sara Quatrocky said.  “I applaud our coaches for making school the number one priority in these student-athletes’ lives and pushing them to be their best both on and off the playing field.”

To be eligible for the Commissioner’s Spring Honor Roll, a student-athlete must post a minimum semester grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. Participants in the sports of men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s rowing, baseball, softball, and men’s and women’s lacrosse were eligible for the honor roll.

Having won 84 national championships since the league was founded in 1975, the SSC’s student-athletes have also proven to be successful in the classrooms. For the sixth consecutive year, the Sunshine State Conference led all 22 Division II conferences with an Academic Success Rate of 86 percent.

For the Spring alone, Lynn’s athletic department as a whole had a 3.320 GPA with 11 of 13 teams earning a 3.000 or higher.  The women’s cross country team had the highest grade point average with an all-time best of 3.831 while the men’s soccer team had the highest on the men’s side with a 3.582 GPA.

Overall, Lynn had an astonishing 83 percent of its student-athletes maintain at least a 3.0 GPA throughout the academic year, with 62 percent earning a 3.5 or better.  The 13 Fighting Knights athletic programs had an all-time Lynn University best 3.408 GPA for the 2012-13 academic year.  Women’s Golf posted a department-high 3.737, taking top honors for the second consecutive year.
