BOCA RATON, Fla.- Two Lynn University student-athletes, Andrew Melchor and Tyne Potgieter, and Assistant Athletic Director Sara Quatrocky  traveled to Orlando, Fla., this weekend for the 7th Annual Sunshine State Conference E.L.I.T.E Weekend. The E.L.I.T.E. acronym stands for “Experience and Leadership Ignite Teamwork and Excellence.” Each of the SSC’s nine institutions was represented by one male and one female representative as well as an advisor.

“It’s great to see our students perfect their leadership among their conference peers,” said Quatrocky, who established the SSC E.L.I.T.E. Leadership Weekend with SSC Assistant Commissioner Marianne Simkulak, who then worked at Barry. “It’s amazing that after seven years of running this program we have built a solid foundation as an SSC S.A.A.C. and I hope that the rest of Division II realizes that we strive not only for academic and athletic success, but also success in developing great leaders in all nine of our conference school’s community.”

On Saturday the student-athletes took the DISC Personality Test which determined one of four behavioral styles that best described their personality. The students then gathered with others who shared their personality style where they assessed the strengths and weaknesses of their behavior tendencies.

“Nine schools, 18 students, but only one goal,” said Melchor, a senior on Lynn University’s baseball team, when asked to describe his experience. Melchor joined LU's S.A.A.C. last season and has been a true leader both on and off the field ever since.

Saturday night the group attended a murder mystery dinner and Sunday afternoon they took part in a conference business session. Throughout the weekend the student-athletes participated in other activities that helped them understand ways to communicate with others who have different personality styles.

“I will now be anxious for them to come back to campus and help lead Lynn’s SAAC to a productive year and initiative positive change in our department,” added Quatrocky.
