Boza Garners National Player of the Week Recognition
DALLAS – Lynn University’s catcher/designated hitter Anthony Boza was recognized as the National Hitter of the Week for the period ending February 12 as announced by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers’ Association and D2BaseballNews.com.
Playing three of four games against Alabama-Huntsville, Boza started the series slowly with a 1-for-3 outing in game two. The Miami, Fla., native turned it up a notch in the Saturday doubleheader, going 9-for-10 from the batter’s box with four home runs, five runs scored and nine runs batted in. For the series, Boza batted .750 and amassed a 1.833 slugging percentage and a .769 on-base percentage.
In addition, the senior tied a school single-game record for home runs (three) and total bases (13) in a 10-9 extra inning victory. Boza’s blast in the bottom of the eighth completed the sweep for the Blue & White. He becomes the fifth player to hit three home runs in a game and just the second player in school history to notch 13 total bases in an outing.
Lynn returns to the diamond on Saturday, February 18, when it travels to Cleveland, Miss., to take on No. 16 Delta State. Fans can follow the action live at LynnFightingKnights.com by selecting the Game Central icon.
