Winter Park, Fla. – Lynn University’s baseball team saw its postseason hopes take a step in the right direction with a three-game sweep of Nova Southeastern over the weekend.  Jed Vandernaald was at the center of the Fighting Knights success and for his efforts, has been named the Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week presented by VALIC.  This marks the second time in three weeks he has garnered the leagues weekly honor.

A native of Garden Grove, Calif, Vandernaald notched the first complete game shutout of his career in the Blue & White’s 8-0 victory against the Sharks.  Working nine innings, the junior right-hander permitted just four hits, walked one and struck out nine batters.

He is 6-4 in 11 starts on the season with a 2.43 earned run average and 58 strikeouts in 74 innings pitched.  Vandernaald ranks among the SSC’s leaders in wins, ERA, wins and IP.

The Fighting Knights continue their postseason push on the road this weekend when they travel to Saint Leo University for a three-game series beginning on Saturday, April 27, at 7 p.m.
