Men's Basketball Announces the Addition of Frederick Landers
Boca Raton, Fla.- Lynn University’s men’s basketball head coach Jeff Price is excited to announce the addition of Frederick Landers. Landers, a native of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., spent the past two seasons at Division I University of North Florida. After red-shirting his sophomore season at UNF he has made the decision to join the Fighting Knights for the 2013-14 season.
“We are thrilled to have Fred join our program,” said Coach Price. “He is not only an outstanding player, but person as well. He will be an excellent representative of Lynn University and we look forward to having three great years with him.”
In his freshman campaign Landers averaged 10.1 minutes in 30 games for the Ospreys. He was considered one of the team’s top perimeter man-to-man defenders in his rookie season. After averaging 2.6 points and 1.4 rebounds in the 2011-12 season, Landers decided to red shirt the following year.
A four-year letter-winner at Dillard High School, he was named the 6A/5A/4A Player of the Year in Broward County by the South Florida Sun Sentinel. As a senior he earned All-State accolades when he averaged 19.8 points and 13 rebounds per game. In his freshman year with the Panthers the team won the 5A State Championship and finished with a 28-2 record. Landers was a four-time All-District and All-Area selection during his career at Dillard.
The Fighting Knights return eight members from last season’s squad that finished 11-16 overall and 3-13 in the Sunshine State Conference. Price was announced as the head coach last month making his return to Lynn University. He is a pioneer of the program as he was the first head coach when the program started in 1993.
