Men’s Basketball Falls After Eckerd’s Second Half Surge

BOCA RATON, Fla.- Lynn University’s men’s basketball team dropped their second straight Sunshine State Conference game to Eckerd College on Wednesday night, 81-70. Senior Slobodan Miljanic led the Knights with 13 points and seven rebounds in the loss. Lynn falls to 2-6 in the SSC, 10-8 overall while Eckerd advanced to 5-3 in conference play.
It was a back and forth first half, with the score tying eight times, and the lead changing six. LU got on the board first with a free throw from Pavel Raickovic who was fouled just 40 seconds into the game. Within the first four minutes of the game the Tritons were on the verge of shooting for a bonus after Lynn tallied five fouls.
LU’s biggest lead of the half was by three, on three different occasions. A steal by Miljanic followed by a foul on Junior McLeod put the senior at the charity line with the opportunity to give the Knights a halftime lead. Two successful shots later, LU headed into the locker room with a 32-31 lead.
Miljanic led the Knights with eight points in the first half and five rebounds whilst shooting two for three from downtown. Collectively the Knights shot 42.9 percent from the field and pulled down 18 rebounds. The Tritons tallied 22 rebounds and a 32.3 shooting percent from the floor.
The visitors opened the half on an 8-1 run, taking the lead at 18:15 and never turning back. LU was able to tie the game at 11:40 after a layup from Raickovic but the Tritons we able to hold off the Blue and White. With five minutes to play the home team trailed 67-60, but Eckerd closed the game with six consecutive free throws for the win after the Knights found themselves in foul trouble.
Although LU improved it’s shooting to 50 percent in the second half and 90.9 percent from the charity line, it was not enough. The Tritons shot an impressive 59.1 percent from the field in the second half and were led by Darrien Mack who tallied 14 points and a perfect six for six from the charity line in the final half.
Overall LU shot 46.3 percent from the field and 81.3 percent from the free throw line, while grabbing 32 boards. Alongside Miljanic and his team-high 13 points and five assists, fellow senior Jeremy Lampkin added 12 points for his third consecutive double-digit performance.
The boys in blue will travel to Florida Southern this coming Saturday, February 2 for their second of two meetings with the Mocs this season. Tip off is set for 4 pm.
