Men’s Basketball Drops to Florida Tech in Nail Biter
MELBOURNE, Fla. - Lynn University’s men’s basketball team lost a heartbreaker to Florida Tech on Wednesday night in the Clemente Center, 60-62. Lynn stands at 9-5 overall, 2-3 in the Sunshine State Conference. Pavle Raickovic led the Knights with a double double performance with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
The game started with an exchange of baskets, changing the lead three times before Lynn took a substantial lead of 17-10 after a Dante Scholl trey followed by a layup from Jeremy Lampkin with 12 minutes remaining. The Blue and White extended their lead to 30-14 with 5:40 on the clock before the Panthers began to close the gap. With one minute remaining Brandon Smith knocked in a jumper from just inside the arc to give the Knights a 39-28 lead. At the sound of the buzzer Lynn led by nine, 39-30.
LU shot an impressive 61.5% from the field in the first half with Raickovic leading the Knights with 10 points and six rebounds. Florida Tech shot 35.3% from the field and was led by Chris Carter, who tallied 12 points. Lynn grabbed down 25 rebounds, 18 of them were defensive.
Within the first five minutes of the second half, Florida Tech closed the gap to two, with Lynn ahead 43-41. The score was tied at 43-all before Lynn turned up the pressure to pull ahead by eight after a Kaleb Clyburn trey, 55-47. With 1:41 remaining, the Panthers tied the game at 60-all.
A Julius Reed jumper with 27.1 seconds remaining gave the Panthers all they would need. With four seconds to go Lynn got the ball back after it was knocked out of bounds by the Panters. Raickovic got the shot of but the ball swirled around the rim an out. As the final horn buzzed, Lynn trailed 60-62.
The Blue and White shot 25% in the second half and pulled down 22 rebounds. Raickovic recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while also adding three blocks. Clyburn added 10 points, Lampkin and Smith added nine points each.
Lynn will travel to Rollins on Saturday, January 19 for its next Sunshine State Conference matchup. Tip off is slated for 4 pm.
