Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. – It is tough to stop a team that doesn’t miss. Lynn University’s men’s basketball team learned that lesson first hand Saturday afternoon following a 90-74 loss to Nova Southeastern. Brandon Smith led all scorers with 22 points while Kevin Ohen logged his first career double-double but the Fighting Knights could not halt the hot hand of the Sharks, which shot 66.7 percent from the field and 69.6 percent from beyond the arc. Lynn drops to 11-14 overall and 3-12 in the Sunshine State Conference.
The Blue & White hit their fair of shots as well, going 13-for-27 for a 48.1 clip from downtown and 45.8 percent overall on the night. Smith was 8-of-11 from the field and nearly perfect from three-point range by hitting six of seven attempts.
Lynn trailed 20-9 early in the first half but took a one-point 29-28 lead following a 20-8 run, bookend by a pair of Smith trey’s. Unfortunately, NSU (14-10, 6-8 SSC) responded with three shots from downtown over the final five minutes to take a 42-32 lead into the break.
The Sharks hot hand continued in the second half as consecutive three’s built up their lead to 16 points, a deficit the Fighting Knights could not climb back from.
Ohen was 7-of-13 from the field for 18 points and added a personal-best 10 rebounds for the double-double. He also chipped in three assists, three steals and two blocked shots. Coming off the Bench, Reed Ridder tallied 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting.
The Fighting Knights close out the regular season on the road Saturday, March 2, at 4 p.m. when they travel to St. Petersburg, Fla., to battle Eckerd. Fans can catch the action live at LynnFightingKnights.com and receive in-game updates by following @LUKnights on Twitter and Instagram.
