Men’s Basketball Suffers Loss on the Road

BOCA RATON, Fla.- The Lynn University men’s basketball team lost its first game of the 2013 year on the road at St. Leo University, 59-69. The Knights stand at 7-4 overall, 0-2 in the Sunshine State Conference while St. Leo advanced to 9-2 overall, 2-0 in the SSC.  Shamel Akins scored 18 points in the loss while connecting on all eight of his shots from the free throw line. 


The Lions started on an 11-0 run while gave them a significant lead over the Knights early on. LU trailed by as many as 13, at 22-35, with 3:16 until the half. However, the Blue and White headed into the locker room trailing 26-38.
Jeremy Lampkin led the Knights with 10 points in the first half, while making all of his free throws. The Knights shot 30.8% from the field while St. Leo connected on 50% of their shots. LU grabbed down 17 boards and shot 81.8% from the charity line.


After the half, Lynn rallied to cut St. Leos lead to seven with 7:42, 45-52. The Lions continued to dominate the Knights en route to their second conference victory of the season. Akins tallied 14 points in the final half, while Kaleb Clyburn scored nine points, five rebounds, and four assists.


LU improved their shooting to 32.1% in the second half, while St. Leo shot 31.8% from the field.  Marcus Ruh scored the game-high 20 points for the Lions. The Knights continued their success from the charity line, making 13 of 14 free throw attempts.
