Men's Basketball Prevails Over Saint Martin's

BOCA RATON, Fla.-Lynn University’s men’s basketball team defeated visiting Saint Martin’s 63-48 on the first day of the Courtyard by Marriott Holiday Classic hosted in the de Hoernle Center. Lynn picked up it’s third consecutive win while four Knights tallied double digits in points.
The Fighting Knights took an immediate five point lead after Ohen shot back to back jumpers and made a free throw on an and-one opportunity. Saint Martin’s rallied and tied the score at 7-all with 17:23 to play in the first half.
A Matt Dodson jumper gave the visitors their only lead of the contest at 14:33, 10-11. Reed Ridder, sunk a trey from behind the arc to put the Knights back on top for the rest of the game. Lynn led by as much as 16 with 1:12 left to play. The Blue and White headed into the locker room with a 15 point spread for a 34-19 halftime lead.
Lynn shot 48.3% from the field in the first half and pulled down 20 boards while Saint Martin’s shot 30.4% and had six turnovers. Ohen tallied nine of his 11 points in the first half while Raickovic pulled down five boards.
LU continued their momentum after the break extending their lead to 19 at 16:13 after a jumper by Clyburn. The visitors were able to cut the margin to ten three different times, but were unable to break into a single digit deficit as the Knights enforced their stand out defense throughout the remainder of the contest. The Blue and White held off the Saints for a 63-48 final.
Overall the Knights shot 41.5% while making 14 of 19 baskets from the charity line. LU tallied 18 points in the paint and grabbed down a total of 38 rebounds. Kaleb Clyburn led LU with 12 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Slobodan Miljanic and Kevin Ohen tallied 11 points a piece while Pavle Raickovic added ten and a team-high nine boards. Roger O’Neill recorded a game-high 13 points and four assists for the visitors while shooting five for eight from the field.
With the win, Lynn advances to 6-3 on the season while Saint Martin’s falls to 4-5. Lynn will host Missouri Western December 19 at 7:30 pm in it’s final contest of the 2012 portion of the season.
