Second Half Blaze Sends Men’s Basketball Home

Valdosta, Ga.- Lynn University Men’s Basketball suffered their first road loss of the season Saturday night at Valdosta State University, 64-72. The Fighting Knights are now 2-2 early in the season, while Valdosta moves to 5-0. Kaleb Clyburn scored a game-high 17 points in the loss and Pavle Raickovic added 16 points and seven rebounds.
Slobodan Miljianic led the Fighting Knights with nine first half points while Clyburn added eight to help the Knights to a 34-31 lead at halftime. LU shot 47.8% from the field while Valdosta shot 45.8%.
Valdosta got on the board first with a three point jumper from David Murray, but the Fighting Knights quickly battled to take a lead at 16:55, one that they would hold the remainder of the first half, at 34-31
The Blazers came out hot after the break tying the score at 36-all only 34 seconds into the second half. As Valdosta took the lead, LU was able to close the gap to one with 11:01 to go.
Lynn was unable to recover as the clock ran down and trailed 66-55 after Valdosta went on a 18-7 run with 2:05 remaining. Lynn was able to get within four of the victors at 68-64 with 55 seconds remaining but the two teams exchanged multiple fouls and the Blue and White evidently fell 72-64 at the sound of the buzzer.
LU shot an impressive 83.3% from the charity line, while making all eight of their first half shots. The Knights pulled down a total of 32 rebounds, while Valdosta pulled down 27. The Blazers shot 47.1% from the field while holding LU to 44.9%.
The Fighting Knights will stay on their home court for the remainder of the 2012 portion of the season, hosting Flagler next on November 27.
