Harvey’s Milestones Carry Women’s Basketball to Victory

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Kira Harvey moved her way up the Lynn University record books Tuesday evening in helping the women’s basketball team to a 55-45 victory over Cameron.  The senior guard became the ninth player in program history with 1,000 career points while her three three-pointers gave her 155 for her career, tops in school history.  Lynn improves to 7-2 overall.

Just as she had done 152 times previously, Harvey squared up for a shot from atop the arc and hit nothing but net to put LU on top 3-0.  The Fighting Knights would not relinquish the lead despite Cameron’s best efforts.

Lynn knocked down its first four shots to take a 9-3 lead but Alexis Williams closed the gap with a free-throw.  Harvey spun around her defender on the ensuing possession and let loose from the right wing for her second trey of the night, sixth point of the game and 1,001st point of her career.

The Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., native wasn’t done there, assisting on two baskets to help the Blue & White extend their lead to 13 before sinking the three that would put her name atop the all-time three-pointers made record book.

Lynn’s defense smothered the Aggies (2-7) for much of the half, forcing them into 13 turnovers and 30.4 percent shooting to carry a 32-21 lead into the break. Cameron, though, took advantage of LU’s cold shooting to close in but Harvey prevailed at the line down the stretch to keep the Fighting Knights in the victory column.

The Fighting Knights hit eight consecutive shots at the free-throw line and Charla Nelson-James provided tough defense.  Nelson-James finished one point shy of a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds.  Tashina Bailey added 10 points and seven rebounds while Shatorria Baker posted a line of eight points, four steals and three assists.

Lynn returns to the hardwood on Wednesday, December 19, at 2 p.m. when they take on defending NCAA Division II National Champions, No. 9 Shaw University.  Fans can catch the action live at LynnFightingKnights.com.  Don’t forget to ‘Like’ us on Facebook and follow @LUKnights on Twitter and Instagram.
