Women’s Hoops Closes Out Regular Season Play
St. Petersburg, Fla. – Lynn University’s women’s basketball ended the regular season with a 66-51 loss at Eckerd College on Saturday. Kira Harvey led the squad with 14 points. The Fighting Knights drop to 12-14 overall and 7-9 in the Sunshine State Conference.
Harvey provided much of the offensive spark for the Fighting Knights in the first half, scoring 10 points. The second of her two three-pointers in the period helped Lynn build a three-point, 7-4 advantage. But the Tritons were able to take back the lead with the long ball.
Back-to-back treys by Amy Buccilla and Kati Rausberg put Eckerd back on top until Marquis Lee fought in the low post for basket to tie the game at 25 with 2:31 left in the half to play. Linsey Niles, though, connected on consecutive lay-ups to give the Tritons a 30-25 lead heading into the break.
Eckerd (15-10, 8-8 SSC) used a 15-5 run to open the second half to pull away. Niles scored 10 of her game-high 20 points in the period, including six on two treys to help her squad grab a 45-30 lead.
Lynn shot 40.4 percent for the game and 46.2 percent from downtown compared to Eckerd’s 46.7 percent shooting from the field and 53.3 percent from beyond the arc.
The Fighting Knights now wait to find out where they will be seeded in the Sunshine State Conference Championship beginning on Wednesday, February 29.
