BOCA RATON, Fla. – The official start of basketball is just under a week away so Lynn University’s women’s basketball team used Sunday’s exhibition match-up against cross-town Division I rival Florida Atlantic to work out some of the kinks. The Fighting Knights fell 101-51 but kept the game close for much of the first half. Shatorria Baker led the team with 11 points while newcomer Isidora Madzarevic added a game-high 10 rebounds.
Florida Atlantic raced out to an early 7-2 lead behind some stingy press defense. The Blue & White battled back and closed to within nine points for the remainder of the half. Baker and Lakendra Jones tagged on consecutive baskets late in the period to help LU cut the deficit to five, 42-37, but the Owls went on an 8-0 run to end the half ahead 50-37.
Lynn used different lineup combinations throughout much of the second half as it prepares for its season-opener. Madzarevic saw significant minutes in pulling down 10 boards, eight of which came in the second period.
The Fighting Knights open their season on Friday, November 8, at 2 p.m. when they travel to Pensacola, Fla., to take on West Florida. Fans can listen to the action live at LynnFightingKnights.com and receive in-game updates by following @LUKnights on Twitter, Instagram and Vine.
