Women’s Basketball Suffers First Loss of Season

BOCA RATON, Fla.-After starting off the season with five straight victories Lynn University’s women’s basketball team lost to Florida Southern 52-59 in the Sunshine State Conference opener. Shatorria Baker lead the Fighting Knights with 14 points while Charla Nelson-James had seven rebounds and three blocks in the loss. Lynn drops to 5-1 overall and 0-1 in the SSC While Florida Southern improves to 3-3 and 1-0 in the conference.
The Mocs scored the opening bucket of the match and lead by as many as 10 points before the Fighting Knights finished the half on a 19-10 run to cut the deficit to one. Lynn had it’s biggest lead of the night in the first half when Kira Harvey found Baker behind the three point line with a tied score to give the Fighting Knights the three point advantage. Baker was the only player in the game to reach double-digit points in the opening half while also contributing a pair of steals.
Lynn and Florida Southern would go back and forth tying the score three times in five minutes to start the half. The Mocs would pull away with a 12-0 run giving Florida Southern a 36-48 advantage. Lynn was unable to recover and eventually fell 52-59 by the sound of the buzzer. Harvey contributed eight points in the half followed by Zachara Bailey who had seven points, four assists and three steals in the final 20 minutes.
