BOCA RATON, Fla. – The forecast of raining threes rang true for Lynn University’s women’s basketball team as it tied a program record with 13 three-pointers made in a 76-52 victory over Northwood (Fla.) on Wednesday afternoon.  Kira Harvey also tied a school record by knocking down eight treys en route to a career-high 30 points.  The Fighting Knights kept their record clean by improving to 5-0 on the season.

It was Harvey who gave LU its first lead before the contest even started, knocking down two free-throws prior to the opening tip-off.  Harvey connected on all six attempts at the charity stripe and has knocked down 19 consecutive dating back to the Flagler game.

The Blue & White struggled a bit with their shooting in the first half, hitting just 25.8 percent from the field, but were able to hold a 27-19 lead following a Zachara Bailey fast break layup.  Northwood (3-3) immediately called a timeout and went on an 8-0 run to close out the period tied 27-27.

Lynn, though, put the pedal to the metal to start the second half, beginning with a three by Bailey from the right wing.  That jumpstarted a 29-6 run by the Fighting Knights in which the Seahawks called two timeouts to halt the hot-hand of Harvey.

The senior guard drained trey’s on three consecutive possessions, and then later stared down three more as LU pulled away from Northwood 59-33.  Harvey also contributed four assists and recorded a game-high five steals before sitting down with 9:41 remaining.

With LU’s leading scorer resting, it was the freshmen’s turn to pick up the scoring slack.  Tifani Kerrison, Zachara Bailey and Shatorria Baker did just that, combining for 31 points on 11-of-29 shooting.  Kerrison led the pack with 12 points off the bench while Bailey and Baker dished out eight assists and made five steals.

Lynn shot 36.5 percent for the game but 46.4 percent from beyond the arc, the fifth-best 3-point percentage in school history.  Defense fueled the Fighting Knights as they scored 36 points off 26 Seahawks turnovers while recording 18 steals and six blocks.

The Blue & White return to the hardwood on Saturday, December 1, at 2 p.m. when they open up Sunshine State Conference play against Florida Southern.  Fans can watch the action live at LynnFightingKnights.com.  Don’t forget to ‘Like’ us on Facebook and follow @LUKnights on Twitter and Instagram.
