Tracy Sparks Women’s Basketball in Win
BOCA RATON, Fla. - Lynn University’s women’s basketball team continued its dominance over Puerto Rico-Mayaguez with a 77-51 victory on Tuesday afternoon. Tylar Tracy was clutch for the Fighting Knights, scoring a career-high 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting while three of her teammates also reached double-figures in scoring. Lynn improves to 2-0 on the season and 7-0 all-time against the Janes.
Despite being outshot 56-38.7 percent in the first half, the Blue & White were able to head into the locker room leading 36-31. Suffocating defense by LU forced Mayaguez into 16 first-half turnovers, of which Lynn was able to score 14 points off of.
A huge second period, though, pulled the Fighting Knights away and closed the door on any UPR-Mayaguez comeback thoughts.
The Janes hung around in the opening minutes, closing the gap to seven, 42-35, off a Laishka Graves layup. Tifani Kerrison increased LU’s lead back into double-digits but Mayaguez stubbornly managed to get back to within nine, 50-41, with 8:37 remaining.
Coming off the bench, Tracy keyed a 25-5 run by the Fighting Knights with one of her four offensive rebounds and put backs. She scored nine of her 16 points during the six-minute span while also contributing four rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot.
After dropping a career-best 29 the previous night, Harvey finished with 15 points but pulled down a personal-high 12 rebounds for her first-ever double-double. Amanda Schultz added 10 points and seven rebounds and Shatorria Baker scored 12 points with five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Lynn shot 39.1 percent as a team, including an eye-popping 50 percent from three-point range, and held Puerto Rico-Mayaguez to 41.5 percent shooting, including a mere 12.5 percent from beyond the arc.
The Fighting Knights hit the road for the Fairfield Inn and Suites Pirate Classic hosted by Armstrong Atlantic on Friday-Saturday, November 16-17. Fans can watch the action live at LynnFightingKnights.com. Don’t forget to ‘Like’ us on Facebook and follow @LUKnights on Twitter and Instagram.
