Women’s Basketball Tips Their Hat to Stetson
DeLand, Fla. – Lynn University’s women’s basketball team took a lead into half against Division I Stetson but the Hatters prevailed 65-51 in a Tuesday matinee. Freshman Shatorria Baker scored a game-high 13 points while Charla Nelson-James logged 10 rebounds and four blocks. The Fighting Knights drop to 5-2 overall.
Stetson (4-3) was put to the test by the Blue & White in the early goings until a Cherisse Burris layup made it 10-7 and started an 8-0 run. Tylar Tracy, though, halted the Hatters streak with a shot in the paint and Nelson-James pulled LU to within three, 18-15.
The Hatters maintained their lead until 27 ticks on the clock when Amanda Schultz drained a three from the top of the arc, putting the Fighting Knights up 28-27. Shanasa Sanders had a chance to retake the lead as time expired but Nelson-James swatted away the attempt.
Unfortunately, a 21-3 run to start the second half dashed the hopes of the Blue & White and helped Stetson take the game.
Lynn shot 31.7 percent from the field and knocked down 66.7 percent from the free-throw line while Stetson connected on 35.3 percent from the floor and 68.4 percent at the line.
The Fighting Knights return to the hardwood on Friday, December 14, at 5:30 p.m. when they host Palm Beach Atlantic. Fans can receive in-game tweets by following @LUKnights on Twitter and Instagram. Don’t forget to ‘Like’ us on Facebook also.
