Women’s Cross Country Adds One for 2013
BOCA RATON, Fla. – Looking to continue the momentum from its reinstated women’s cross country program, Lynn University head coach Niki Alvarez announced the signing of Sarah Northup for the 2013 season.
“We are so excited to have Sarah [Northup] as a Fighting Knight!” exclaimed Alvarez, who is entering her second year. “She brings a high level of competitiveness with a strong running background to our program. Her love of running, strong academics and dedication to our sport will fit right in to our rapidly growing squad.”
Northup earned first team all-county twice in cross country, earning team MVP accolades while helping lead Tavares High School to a district championship in 2011 and runner-up finish in 2012. She also logged two top-15 finishes at regionals and was a two-time state qualifier. Northup was also a strong competitor in track and field, holding the school record as a member of the 4x800 relay team.
After an 11-year layoff, Lynn University reinstated the cross country program in 2012 with great success. The Fighting Knights had one runner garner All-Sunshine State Conference honors while also qualifying for the NCAA South Region Tournament where she earned All-South Region recognition.
