Winter Park, Fla. – Lynn University’s Gabriella Wuyke was among seven student-athletes who were recognized as members of the 2012 All-Sunshine State Conference Women’s Cross Country Team as announced on Tuesday.  Wuyke becomes the first runner in Lynn history to garner All-SSC accolades.

The Fighting Knights have thrived in cross country version 2.0, courtesy of Wuyke.  Lynn fielded cross country as a varsity sport from 1998-2001 and reinstated the program beginning in 2012.  The East Lyme, Conn., product has put the Blue & White on the map in their first season, becoming the first runner to record a top-10 finish, the first to earn SSC All-Championship accolades and the first to qualify for the NCAA Tournament.

Wuyke ran her best 5k of the season at the Disney Invite where she just missed finishing less than 20 minutes, posting a time of 20:00.60.  She then saved her best for last, improving by nearly two minutes in 6k races with a 22:54.90 time at the SSC Championship to finish sixth individually.

Rollins' Lauryn Falcone was selected Runner of the Year. Tampa's Laura Yarrow was named Freshman of the Year, while her coach, Jarrett Slaven, was tabbed Coach of the Year.  Earning a spot on the all-conference team with Wuyke, Falcone and Yarrow were: Kelly Hagan (Tampa), Kaia Hampton (Tampa), Danielle Kissel (Tampa) and Alexandria Palm (Nova Southeastern).

Lynn returns to the course at the NCAA South Region Tournament in Huntsville, Ala., on Saturday, November 3, at 9 a.m.  Fans, don’t forget to ‘Like’ us on Facebook and follow @LUKnights on Twitter and Instagram.
