Cross Country Tunes up for SSC Tournament

Orlando, Fla. – Running in its final regular season match before the Sunshine State Conference, Lynn University’s women’s cross country team saw six runners compete in the UCF Black and Gold 6k Invite.  Gabrielle Wyuke led the Fighting Knights contingent with a 43rd place finish out of 151 runners.

The junior out of East Lyme, Conn., bested her previous 6k time by 11 seconds, running the event in 24:23.49.  She finished third among schools from the Sunshine State Conference.  

Ashley Nazario and Kinsey Roberts each ran a touch slower off their previous 6k pace, completing in a time of 28:39.99 and 29:34.97 while Stephanie McGowan improved by 12 seconds for a run of 31:17.53.  Additionally, Sabrina Pillay posted a time of 40:34.42 and Clara Gilliam ran her first 6k race in 41:16.66.

Lynn finished 16th at the UCF Black and Gold Invitational.  North Florida claimed first place overall with 49 points followed by UCF (88), Jacksonville (106), South Florida (121) and Florida Gulf Coast (153).  Fellow SSC schools Rollins and Saint Leo took 11th and 15th place, respectively.

The Fighting Knights return to action on Saturday, October 20, at 8 a.m. when they participate in the SSC Tournament hosted by Rollins.
