Daytona Beach, Fla. – Although it had participated in two previous meets, Lynn University’s cross country team competed as a full team for the first time at the Embry-Riddle Asics Classic on Saturday morning.  Gabriella Wuyke recorded the first top-10 finish in program history as the Fighting Knights took 10th place out of 12 teams.

Wuyke set the pace early for LU and was able to maintain it throughout, running the 5k in a personal-best time of 20:15.60.  The junior out of East Lyme, Conn., finished ninth out of 107 runners.

Ashley Nazario and Kinsey Roberts crossed the finish line consecutively for the Blue & White.  Each runner set personal 5k records with Nazario improving by two minutes with a run of 24:18.55.  Roberts bested her previous mark by three minutes by finishing with a time of 24:24.34.  Stephanie McGowan also ran her best event with a three minute difference of 27:14.40, respectively.

Running in their first races, Clara Gilliam and Sabrina Pillay, posted times of 33:19.00 and 33:33.00.

As a team, Lynn finished with 257 points.  Host Embry-Riddle took first with 47 points, followed by Xavier-Louisiana (70), Seton Hall (88), Flagler (105) and Rollins (123).

The Fighting Knights return to action on October 6, in Orlando, Fla., when they take part in the Disney 5k Invite.  Don’t forget to ‘Like’ us on Facebook and follow @LUKnights on Twitter and Instagram.
