BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University Director of Athletics Dr. Kristen Migliano announced the hiring of Andrew Danna as head men’s golf coach on Monday.  Danna becomes the third coach in school history and inherits a program that consistently ranks among the nation’s best.

“Lynn University is thrilled to have Andrew [Danna] join the Fighting Knights family,” said Migliano.  “When I met Andrew, it impressed me how much he embraced the NCAA Division II philosophy.  Coupled with his experience building a flourishing program in a competing conference, his Class ‘A’ membership of the PGA of America and his golf expertise, I am confident that he is the perfect person to lead the men’s golf program to a successful season in 2012-13 and beyond.”

Danna arrives in Boca Raton after spending two seasons at the helm of Georgia Southwestern.  The Hurricanes made the transition from NAIA to the NCAA in 2006 and had little success until his arrival in 2010.

Andrew Danna ActionIn the first five years of competition, GSW yielded one tournament victory and one individual NCAA Tournament appearance.  The 2011-12 season saw the Hurricanes win three events, appear in their first NCAA Tournament as a team, earn a No. 1 national ranking in Golfstat and have two PING All-Americans and All-Peach Belt Conference selections while Danna earned PBC Coach of the Year recognition.

“I feel very honored to be the next head coach at Lynn University and want to thank Dr. Migliano, Greg Malfitano and the rest of the athletic department for giving me this incredible opportunity,” Danna said.  “In addition to being able to work with one of the top programs in the country, what attracted me to this position was the overall support Lynn shows for not only men’s golf but its entire athletic department.  That being said, I am looking forward to continuing the strong men’s golf tradition.”

Beginning his professional career at the Newport Country Club in Newport, R.I., Danna returned to his hometown of Baton Rouge, La., to serve as a club instructor for player development with the junior golf program at the Santa Maria Golf Academy.  He later moved on to the English Turn Country Club in New Orleans before making the move into the college ranks at Georgia Southwestern.

An active participant in the Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA) Gulf States events, Danna earned enough points to make the 2010 Louisiana PGA Mackel Cup team, which is a tournament that pairs the top PGA professionals from Louisiana against the top PGA professionals from Mississippi.

A 2006 graduate of Mississippi State University, Danna earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and professional golf management and currently holds a Class “A” PGA Professional status.

Lynn returns four starters from a squad which held No. 1 rankings in both Golfstat and the Nike/Golf World NCAA Division II Coaches Poll, including two-time All-American Daniel Young.  The Fighting Knights claimed two victories, finished in the top-five in 11 of the 12 tournaments and reached the NCAA Tournament for the 10th consecutive year.
