Men’s Golf in Top-Three at Matlock Classic
Lakeland, Fla. – Lynn University’s men’s golf team made a dramatic afternoon move and is now in third place at the 32nd Annual Matlock Classic after the second round of play. Jose Andres Miranda has been the steady hand for the Fighting Knights through 36-holes with a score of 140 but Daniel Young has begun to move his way up the leaderboard on the 7,090-yard, par 72 Lone Palm Golf Club course.
Miranda trails leader Tim Crouch of host Florida Southern by eight strokes heading into the final round of play. The freshman from Quito, Ecuador, posted a four-under 68 to start the day before heading into the clubhouse with an even par 72 in the second round. He is tied for fourth individually.
Young had one of the biggest turnarounds on the day, posting a 77 in the morning before improving 10 shots for a five-under par 67 later in the day to finish tied for 15th. Ernesto Vitienes and Roberto Francioni were as consistent as can be, posting identical rounds of73 for 146 totals while Filip Timmerman is only a shot back of the duo after carding a 75-72 for 147.
Lynn (573) was off it’s game in the first 18-holes, shooting a one-over par 289 before posting a four-under par 284 in the latter half of the day. The Fighting Knights trail leader Barry (559) by 12 strokes and Florida Southern (567) by six shots. Florida Tech and West Florida (580) are locked in a battle for fourth and fifth place.
Play concludes at the Matlock Classic on Tuesday beginning at 8 a.m.
