Men’s Golf Completes Action at McDonough Cup Tied for Eighth
Orlando, Fla. – Lynn University’s men’s golf team ended the fall season by tying for eighth place out of 16 teams at the McDonough Cup hosted at the Eagle Creek Golf Club. Jose Miranda was the top individual finisher for the Fighting Knights, tying for eighth overall.
Trailing by 10 shots heading into the final day of competition, the Blue & White shot a second consecutive 294 to close out the 54-hole tournament with an 876 total. They ended up 19-strokes behind winner Armstrong Atlantic (857). Nova Southeastern (861) tied with Lander for second while Florida Tech (865) and Mount Olive (871) rounded out the top-five.
Miranda posted his second consecutive round of 74 and the sophomore out of Quito, Ecuador, logged a 214 in total. It marks his second top-10 finish in four fall events.
Paul McPhee tied a career-best 54-hole score after carding rounds of 72-72-75 for a 219 total, tying for 29th individually. Ernesto Vitienes was two-shots off of equaling his previous personal-best mark, also shooting a 219. The senior from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, could not have been more consistent with three consecutive 73 rounds.
Elliott Whitley rebounded from a tough first day on the links to post a team-best 72 on the final day. He shot 227 overall, six-strokes better than Keith Greene (233).
The Fighting Knights logged a pair of top-five finishes as a team over four fall tournaments.
