Valdosta, Ga. – Lynn University’s second-ranked men’s golf team tied its best-finish ever at the Southeastern Collegiate by taking second place at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.  Ernesto Vitienes earned his third top-three finish in his last four tournaments.

Trailing by one shot at the start of the day, Vitienes began play with five pars before a bogey on hole No. 6.  The senior from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic birdied the last hole before the turn and tallied seven more pars before heading to the clubhouse with a bogey on the last hole for a one-over par 73.  His 214 is the third-lowest 54-hole score of the season and put him four-shots back of winner Ryan Gendron of Saint Leo.

Elliott Whitley maintained his steady spring stroke average with a final round 72.  He opened up with birdie-bogey before knocking down two-more birds to end the first nine holes one-under.  Whitley played near-mistake golf on the back minus a bogey on No. 15 and ended up tied for 13th individually.

Jose Andres Miranda and Martin Cancino tied for 20th with scores of 220 while Keith Greene rounded out the group with a 222, respectively.  Cancino, playing in his first tournament as a member of the top-five, showed promise with rounds of 72 and 70 before a 78 on the last day.

The Fighting Knights shot the third-lowest score in the third round with a 295 but could not keep up with top-ranked Barry, who posted a 289.  The Bucs claimed first with an 861 while Lynn tallied an 867.  Armstrong Atlantic (878) was able to jump host Valdosta State (879) while Saint Leo took fifth (881).

Lynn previously finished second at the Southeastern Collegiate in 2012 and 2006.

Lynn is back in action on Monday, March 17, when it travels to Eatonton, Ga., to participate in the Bobcat Invitational, which it has won in three of the last four years.  Fans can read more about LynnFightingKnights.com and receive in-tournament updates by following @LUKnights on Twitter and Instagram.
