Women’s Golf Heads Into Final Round of NCAA Championships One Stroke Back
Daytona Beach, Fla.- Lynn University’s women’s golf team shot 293 in the third round of the NCAA Championships held at the LPGA International Legends Course on Friday. The Fighting Knights were led by Jessica Bradley who shot even with par on the 6,228-yard par 72 course. Louise Manalo sits fourth overall amongst all golfers while teammates Ellen Chambers and Samantha Smolen are fifth and ninth, respectively.
As a team, the Fighting Knights scored the lowest round of the day, 293, gaining two strokes on Nova Southeastern who shot 295. Chambers shot the first birdie of the day for the Blue & White and remained lights out through the front nine, finishing two strokes under par. Bradley’s three birdies on the front nine helped her to a one-under score for the front nine while Smolen went back-to-back with birdies on holes eight and nine to make the turn one stroke over par.
Continuing her success from round two, Louise Manalo finished the first nine holes even with par and found herself one-under after her tee shot on hole No. 12 dropped right next to the pin for a tap-in birdie. Manalo sealed the round with a 74 while Irene Calvo carded a 75 for her best day thus far. Chambers turned in her score card one stroke over par for the second consecutive round while Smolen carded a 74.
Nova Southeastern (+17) remains at the top of the leader board heading in the fourth and final round with LU just one stroke behind. Rounding out the top five teams are Barry (+30), St. Edwards (+56), and Grand Canyon (+60) and Tarleton State (+60) knotted in fifth. NSU’s Linnea Johansson moves to the top of the player leader board with Barry’s Nancy Vergara one stroke behind.
