Daytona Beach, Fla. - Lynn University’s women’s golf team opened up the 2012-13 season with a resounding 12-stroke victory at the NCAA Division II Fall Preview after rain cancelled the final round. Three Fighting Knights finished in the top-10 led by Irene Calvo and Ellen Chambers, who both tied for fifth individually. This marks the fourth tournament victory under second-year head coach Daniel Randolph.
After missing the entire 2011-12 season due to an injury, Chambers came back strong with a 36-hole total of 150 after posting consecutive rounds of 75. The Petrie, Australia, product last played in the NCAA South Regional Tournament in May 2011.
Calvo also carded a 150 while Samantha Smolen tied for eighth with a 36-hole score of 151. Jessica Bradley and Louise Manalo rounded out the LU contingent with scores of 158 and 159, respectively. Additionally, Estefania Buritica participated as an individual with a 168.
Lynn finished with a 606 team score, ahead of fellow Sunshine State Conference schools Barry (618) and Florida Tech (621). Central Oklahaoma (622) claimed fourth while Florida Southern (623) held on to fifth place.
