Danna Resigns as Men’s Golf Head Coach; Heads Home to LSU

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University's Director of Athletics Devin Crosby announced the resignation of men's golf head coach Andrew Danna on Monday. Danna accepted the assistant coach position on the men's golf staff at NCAA Division I Louisiana State University. A national search for his replacement is underway.

"We are sincerely grateful for the leadership and care Andrew devoted to Lynn men's golf," Crosby stated. "His passion for the sport of golf is infectious and is clear to see each day. Andrew stewarded our storied golf program to a better position than what he inherited in 2012."

Danna leaves the Fighting Knights as the most accomplished men's golf coach in program history. Since joining the BLue and White in 2012, Danna steered his teams to six NCAA National Championship appearances, including a national title in 2018 and three national runner-up finishes. The team won back-to-back Sunshine State Conference Championships in 2015 and 2016.

"It's been an honor and privilege to serve as the head men's golf coach at Lynn University for the last six years," Danna said. "I want to thank President Ross, Greg Malfitano and Kristen Migliano for the opportunity that was given to me six years ago. I made a promise to them I would earn the opportunity that was given to me."

Danna is coming off a career year in 2017-18, leading the Lynn men's golf program to its first-ever NCAA National Championship title before being named the Dave Williams National Coach of the Year for Division II. Along the way to a national title, Lynn broke program records for lowest 54-hole total (826 – FAU Spring Championship), average stroke average (72.45) and team stroke average. In addition, the Fighting Knights finished in the top-five in 10 of their 12 tournaments and had at least one individual place in the top-10 in nine events.

A two-time SSC Coach of the Year, Danna has overseen 17 All-Americans, nine All-America Scholars, a National and SSC Freshman of the Year in Felix Kvarnstrom and 13 All-SSC selections. The 17 All-Americans awarded under Danna are the most during any coach's tenure in program history.

In fall 2016, Danna became the record holder for career victories at Lynn after the team took top honors at the Otter Invitational, the 17th time the Blue & White have finished first under his direction. Danna concludes his time at Lynn with a program-record 22 tournament victories.

"The credit for our program's success goes to our student-athletes," Danna continued. "Those young men gave it everything they had and more. I'm incredibly proud of them and everything they have accomplished. The experiences we had and the memories we made will last a lifetime. The future of the program is in good hands."

A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Danna returns home to guide the LSU men's golf program alongside head coach and director of golf, Chuck Winstead. The Tigers have won five national championships in men's golf with the most recent title coming under Winstead in 2015.

Lynn returns four starters from its national championship squad for 2018-19, including Toto Gana, Carlos Bustos, Jorge Villar and Kvarnstrom.
