Melbourne, Fla. – For the fourth time this season and third consecutive week, Jean-Baptiste Mateo of Lynn University's eighth-ranked men's tennis team was selected as the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Seven weeks into the season, the Fighting Knights have garnered five of the men's selections on the year with Mateo earning four and Mehdi Laalej claiming the honor in the opening week.
Mateo continues to play at an extremely high level for the Blue and White as he won all eight of his matches to help lift the squad to a 4-0 record on the week, including wins over No. 29 Indianapolis and No. 23 St. Mary's (Texas).
Mateo and Tristan Houle won all four matches together at No. 3 doubles, improving their record to 7-0 on the season.
In singles, 19th-ranked Mateo didn't drop a set all week playing at the No. 2 flight. He started off the week with a 6-3, 6-1 win vs. Auburn Montgomery on Monday, a 6-0, 6-1 triumph against Queens (N.Y.) on Tuesday and capped off the stretch with an impressive 6-0, 6-0 blanking of UIndy's 29th-ranked Christoph Dreschler on Wednesday. He closed out the weekend with a 6-0, 6-2 victory in the win over St. Mary's.
In singles for the week, Mateo won 48 games and lost just seven. Mateo improves to 14-1 in doubles on the season and remains undefeated in singles action with a team-high 15 wins.
Lynn is 13-2 on the year, winners of 11 straight. The Fighting Knights are back on the courts on Sunday, March 26, at 10 a.m. when they host UC San Diego.
