Flores Headlines Softball’s All-SSC Selections

Melbourne, Fla. - Lynn University's softball team posted its best season in over a decade and was rewarded for those efforts with the announcement of the All-Sunshine State Conference Teams on Tuesday.  Karolina Flores was honored as a first team selection while Victoria Rios and Kayla Sheffield were second team picks, giving the Fighting Knights their most selections since 2005.

Flores is the fourth player to receive first team recognition under head coach Amy Bellisari.  The freshman out of Moreno Valley, Calif., was one of the top offensive players in the SSC, leading the team and ranking in the top-10 of the league in batting average (.352), doubles (12), triples (5) and slugging pct. (.566) while adding a team-best 27 runs batted in and 25 runs scored.

Rios improved on her solid freshman year to post an even better sophomore season.  While she matched her previous total with six home runs, the Miami, Fla., product boasted better batting average (.283) and RBI (21) totals.

A native of Auburndale, Fla., Sheffield turned heads in her freshman campaign.  She would go 8-5 inside the circle with seven complete games and two shutouts while holding opposing teams to a .233 batting average.  She became the first freshman to throw a no-hitter when she blanked Oakland City in a 5-0 victory on Mar. 7.

The Fighting Knights went 26-22 overall and 12-12 in league play in 2017, recording the most overall wins since 2004 and most conference victories since 2003.  This also marked the fourth-most SSC wins in a single season in program history.

Lynn graduates four players but return the bulk of their lineup, including three All-SSC selections and top pitcher Francais Olexa.  For more information log on to LynnFightingKnights.com or follow @Lynn_Knights on Twitter and Instagram.
