West Palm Beach, Fla. - Lynn University’s second-ranked men’s soccer team continued its dominance over Palm Beach Atlantic with a 1-0 victory on Wednesday afternoon.  The Fighting Knights improve their record to 16-0 all-time against the Sailfish following Heiko Eberhardt’s game-winning goal.  Lynn moves to 13-1-0 overall.

Scoring opportunities seemed aplenty for the Blue & White after Jake Furman and Simon Gubisch were able to break free for shot attempts only to be turned away by PBA keeper Steven Bush.  Furman’s chance came within the first two minutes of play when he stole the ball from his defender and fired off a shot to the right post. But, Bush went aerial to make the stop.

Gubisch saw his opening midway through the first period when he made a run down the center of the field and spotted a shooting lane to the right post.  The Stuttgart, Germany, product unleashed a low line drive which Bush was able to just put a finger on to keep the match scoreless.

The Blue & White were finally able to crack the Sailfish’s defenses in the 63rd minute.  Martin Wehlert lifted a corner kick from the left flag into the middle of the box where Eberhardt headed the initial ball straight up in the air.  A second header bounced off the post but the loose ball landed right to Eberhardt’s feet for the easy tap in.

Palm Beach Atlantic (9-3) made a late push to get on the scoreboard but several offside calls and LU’s stellar defensive play kept the shutout in play.  The back line of Jason Sangha, Michael O’Neill, AB Magnusson and Michael Kutscher held the Sailfish to just one shot on goal while the NCAA Division II goal scoring leader, Kevin Hogg, managed just one shot attempt.

Lynn outshot PBA 9-6 overall and held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. Bush recorded three saves while Matt DiCerbo stopped one shot.

The Blue & White return to action on Saturday, October 20, at 5 p.m. when they travel to face Saint Leo, Fla.  Fans can watch the action live at LynnFightingKnights.com.  Don’t forget to ‘Like’ us on Facebook and follow @LUKnights on Twitter and Instagram.
