Boca Raton, Fla. - Lynn University’s women’s soccer team fights to stay alive in the Sunshine State conference tournament but a 2-0 loss to Florida Tech on Saturday will make it difficult.  Meghan Dolan had seven saves in the match but could not hold the Panthers.  The Fighting Knights record drops to 4-8-4 overall and 1-4-3 in SSC play.

Lynn had a couple of chances in the opening period but Florida Tech (10-5-1, 3-4-1 SSC) controlled the speed of play outshooting the Fighting Knights 9-2. Shots by Lauren Handley and Jordyn Turner created dangerous opportunities were unable find the back of the net.

A goal by Aubri Williamson in the 59th minute put Florida Tech on the board, giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead with just over thirty minutes to play.  Williamson set herself up from 25 yards out, took a long rang shot putting the ball in the upper 90 out of Dolan’s reach.

The Fighting Knights looking to counter pressed the ball forward putting the Panthers defense under pressure. Handley and Turner lead the attack with a pair of shots but both were stopped by Julia Kantor.

The Panthers would strike again in the 87th minute when Ashley Vezina dribbled through defenders giving herself a one-on-one with Dolan.  Vezina cut the ball to her right foot and drove the ball low into the left corner to put the finishing touches on the match for the 2-0 victory.

LU put Kantor to the test forcing her to make five saves on the match.

Florida Tech out shot Lynn 22-9 in the game while both teams had a pair of corner kicks giving neither team an advantage.

The Fighting Knights will wait for the final results and standings to see if they qualify for the Sunshine State Conference Tournament which begins on Tuesday, November 5th.
