Winter Park, Fla. - Lynn University’s women’s soccer team hopes to get another shot at Rollins in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament following a 3-0 defeat to the Tars on Wednesday night.  Meghan Dolan tied her career-best with 11 saves in the loss.  The Fighting Knights drop to 4-7-4 overall and 1-3-3 in SSC play.

A goal by Paxton Sickler in the 13th minute put Rollins on top 1-0.  Mora Johnson’s shot was stopped by Dolan and pushed off the cross bar but Sickler followed on the back post to knock in the attempt.

Lynn had a couple of chances late in the opening period but shots by Amanda Feldstein and Jordyn Turner both slipped by the right post.

The Fighting Knights began an aggressive offensive push midway in the second half as Linzi Martin sprung herself free in the Rollins’ third of the field and ripped a shot on goal that was saved by Mary Spring.  Minutes later Spring had to make a diving save off a Turner header, sprawling to her right to make the stop.

Rollins, though, broke through in the 67th minute when Brenna McKee spun her defender at the top of the box, leaving an open lane on net.  Her open look left little for Dolan to do as the shot reached the top left corner.

Nikki Holmes then sealed the deal with a give-and-go with Emma Jones atop the 18-yard box.  Holmes beat Dolan to the right side to make it 3-0.  Turner looked to have an opportunity to get LU on the board but backup keeper Shelby Finch made a stop just inside the box on a breakaway attempt to keep the clean sheet.

Dolan’s willpower in net kept LU close as she turned away several opportunities early and late in the second.  The last time she stopped 11 shots was at Rollins on October 4, 2011.

Rollins out shot Lynn 26-10 and held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Fighting Knights end the regular season on Saturday, November 2, at 1 p.m. when they host Florida Tech.  Lynn will honor its lone senior, Paige Meggison, prior to the match.  Fans can watch the game live at LynnFightingKnights.com and receive in-game updates by following @LUKnights on Twitter, Instagram and Vine.  Don’t forget to ‘Like’ us on Facebook also.
