St. Petersburg, Fla.- Lynn University’s softball team dropped the opening game of the three-game series, 11-12. The Fighting Knights were led offensively by Bianca Savulak who went one-for-three with four RBI and two runs scored. The Blue and White scored 11 runs on 16 hits while the Tritons scored 12 on eight hits.

Lynn took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when an RBI-double from Kasey Murray sent home Danielle McNeill. In the bottom of the inning EC answered back with a two-run home run from Kara Oberer to deep center field.

With bases loaded in the top of the third, Savulak went yard for the first time this season to give the Knights a 5-2 advantage. Eckerd would not back down and scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning to cut LU’s lead to 5-4.

The Blue and White tallied five runs in the top of the third inning to take a 10-4 lead but a seven run rally by Eckerd in the bottom of the fifth put the Tritons ahead by one, 11-10. The rally came on five hits with three errors in the field for the Knights.

A one-out single to left field by Kaci Vassallo put the tying run on base for the LU. A ground out from Murray advanced Vassallo to second. With two outs back to back throwing errors for the Tritons scored the tying run to even the score at 11-all.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Kristen Schurr singled to center field scoring Nazley Wilson for the walk-off win. Missy Montgomery was dealt the loss, her seventh of the season while pitching 2.1 innings of relief allowing two runs on five hits. Murray started the game for the Knights going four innings allowing three hits, ten runs, five earned, while striking out four.

Kochergen went two-for-four with two RBI and one run scored. Cydney Schmidt notched her first career hit as a Knight going two-for-three with one run scored. Six Knights recorded multi-hit games while Savulak recorded her first career grand slam.

The Blue and White move to 17-17 overall, 3-10 in the Sunshine State Conference. The final two games of the three-game set is Friday, March 29. First pitch of the double header is slated for 1 pm.
