BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University’s softball team took leads late into both games of its doubleheader but No. 25 Saint Leo University was able to sweep the Fighting Knights 2-1 and 5-3 Saturday afternoon.  Kasey Murray took a no-hitter into the fifth inning of game one and was 2-for-3 with two runs batted in at the plate in game two.  Lynn drops to 19-28 overall and 5-16 in the Sunshine State Conference.

After failing to get a hit in five innings the previous day, Danielle McNeill opened the bottom of the first with a single to right field.  The Blue & White logged five hits over the opening three frames and found the scoreboard in the bottom of the third.

Bianca Savulak and Devin Kochergen each reached base with one out while Savulak was driven home when Murray smacked a single through the right side of the infield.

An error and bunt single to start the fifth ended Murray’s no-hit bid and threatened LU’s lead.  Torrie Weindorf then singled back up the middle to knot the game at one.  Murray looked as though she would get out of the inning but a wild pitch allowed the Lions (37-14, 17-4 SSC) to plate the eventual winning run.

Murray (11-15) went the distance, allowing just two hits and two unearned runs while striking out two.

The Fighting Knights trailed after the three innings but used a big fourth to go on top 3-1.  Savulak started the scoring spree with a solo home run, her third of the year, to dead center field.  Lions’ hurler Alana Tabel started to unravel from there, surrendering a single to Kaci Vassallo and later a double to Murray to put LU ahead 2-1.  A Jasmine Campos RBI fielder’s choice ended Lynn’s scoring.

Saint Leo, though, was able to plate one in the sixth and then led off the seventh with three consecutive base hits to load the bases.  A fielder’s choice tied the game up but Chelsey Steedley gave SLU the win with a two-run double.

The Fighting Knights close out the regular season when they host nationally-ranked Tampa beginning on Friday, April 26, at 3:30 p.m.  Fans can catch the action live at and receive in-game updates by following @LUKnights on Twitter and Instagram.
