Carmigniani Garners Lynn’s First All-SSC Swimming Honor
Winter Park, Fla. – Add another historical note to Lynn University’s inaugural swimming season: first All-Sunshine State Conference selection. Thalie Carmigniani was named a Second Team pick as announced by the conference office on Thursday, making her the first swimmer in school history to garner All-SSC honors.
A freshman from Tours, France, Carmigniani had a magical first year with the Fighting Knights. She was selected as the first SSC Swimmer of the Week, became the first to medal and win multiple medals at the SSC Championship, swam in the first NCAA National Championship event and became the first All-American when she earned Honorable Mention accolades by finishing in the top-16 of the 400 individual medley at nationals. Carmigniani also earned All-America recognition in the 200 backstroke as well.
Florida Southern freshman Alli Crenshaw headlined the major award winners announced Thursday as part of the 2013 All-Sunshine State Conference Women’s Swimming Team. Crenshaw was named SSC Women’s Swimmer and Co-Freshman of the Year. Rollins’ Audrey Kula shared Freshman of the Year honors with Crenshaw, and Tampa’s Ed Brennan was selected Coach of the Year.
Florida Southern, Nova Southeastern and Tampa each combined for 15 of the 17 total selections as each school recorded five picks apiece. The Moccasins had four first team honorees with the Sharks and Spartans garnering two apiece. Rollins’ Audrey Kula and Lynn’s Carmigniani were the only schools earning All-SSC recognition.
The Fighting Knights return six swimmers from the inaugural squad, including Carmigniani and All-American breaststroker Tyne Potgieter.
