Women’s Swimming Sending Two to National Championship
Indianapolis – For the second year in a row, Lynn University will be sending two swimmers to the NCAA Division II National Championships. Thalie Carmigniani and Tyne Potgieter earned qualifying times in a total of five events and will represent the Fighting Knights in Cleveland, Ohio, beginning March 12.
A sophomore out of Tours, France, Carmigniani will compete in three events: the 1000 freestyle, 400 individual medley and 200 backstroke. She was able to claim silver medals in the 1000 free and 200 back at the Sunshine State Conference Championship. Carmigniani is seeded 12th in the back, 26th in the 1000 free and 27th in the 400 IM. Last season, she finished ninth in the 200 back ‘B’ finals and 13th in the ‘B’ finals for the 400 IM, earning All-America Honorable Mention recognition.
Potgieter will compete in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. The junior from Durban, South Africa, was the silver medalist in both events at the SSC Championship. She is the No. 4 seed in the 100 and the 21st seed in the 200. Potgieter finished 11th in the 100 breast ‘B’ finals in 2013, also gaining All-America Honorable Mention accolades.
The Sunshine State Conference is well-represented with 16 selections overall. Florida Southern has the most qualifiers with six, followed by Tampa (five), Lynn & Saint Leo (two) and Nova Southeastern (one).
