Carmigniani Shines in Swimming Tri-Meet
Melbourne, Fla. - Lynn University’s women’s swimming team may have fell to Saint Leo and Florida Tech but several individuals came out on top in the Saturday afternoon tri-match. Thalie Carmigniani took first place in the 1000-yard free style, 400-yard individual medley and 200-yard backstroke while Tyne Potgeiter claimed top honors in the 200-yard breast stroke.
The day started off well for LU as Carmigniani blew away the competition in the 1000 free, posting a time of 10:41.81, 15 seconds better than the next swimmer. Also competing was Morgan Glazer, who clocked in at 12:34.75.
Julia Pedersen took to the pool in the 200 free and just missed out on a first place finish, trailing Chantal Bouthillier (2:02.00) by just over two and a half seconds (2:04.48). Clairissa Myatt chimed in at 2:26.29.
Potgieter and Darian Weppner placed fifth and eighth in the sprinters 50 free before Carmigniani won the 400 IM with a time of 4:37.55, six seconds ahead of Shelby Pearce from Florida Tech.
Weppner and Myatt both competed in the 100 free, securing times of 1:06.06 and 1:07.64 while Glazer was timed at 6:13.18 in the 500 free.
Carmigniani pulled off the hat trick in her third and final solo event, finishing ahead of her competition by three seconds in the 200 back with a time of 2:09.48.
The final solo competition belonged to Potgieter and she proved to be the perfect closer, winning the 200 breast competition with a time of 2:30.23, one and a half seconds ahead of Sandra Stopzynska of Saint Leo.
Pedersen, Myatt, Glazer and Potgieter then finished up the day by taking third place in the 200 free relay. Lynn clocked in at 1:55.38.
Saint Leo defeated Lynn 126-56 and Florida Tech 119-68 while the Panthers earned a 103-69 victory over LU.
