BOCA RATON, Fla.- Lynn University’s men’s tennis team defeated No. 21 Georgia Regents-Augusta, 8-1, on Friday afternoon at the Perper Tennis Complex. The Fighting Knights improve to 8-0 overall. Tomas Porkop shined in the win with his sixth consecutive singles victory.

Porkop paired with Alessio Iannozzi at the No. 3 doubles spot for a 8-2 win over Gustav Anderson and Nameer Shamsi to give the Blue & White the first point of the match. Vlad Cirla and Roman Turtygin defeated Romain Brunie and Romain Ferreria, 8-3, at the No. 2 doubles slot for a 2-0 Knights lead. Trailing 4-6 in at the No. 1 doubles spot, the Jaguars’ Victor Cabellos and Victor Guimarares battled back for an 8-6 win over Lynn’s Daniel Riggs and Paolo Volpicelli.  GRU’s win marks the seventh-straight for the No. 7 duo in the nation.

Lynn’s third point came when Porkop handed Brunie his first singles loss of the season with a final score of 6-2, 6-0. Iannozzi’s singles win at the No. 4 spot put the Fighting Knights within one point of clinching a victory. Riggs defeated Ferreria, 6-0, 7-5, for Lynn to take a 5-1 lead. Cirla got back on track with a win over Cabellos at the top spot in two sets of 6-3 before Volpicelli and Turtygin both won their matches at the fifth and sixth slots.

Friday’s win puts head coach Mike Perez one victory shy of his 400th at the helm of the men’s tennis program. Perez has put together a 399-152 record to date in his 25 seasons with the Fighting Knights.

The Blue & White return to the court on Saturday, March 1, when they face Embry-Riddle at 10 a.m. The Eagles won the 2013 NAIA National Title and are currently 3-1 overall with their only loss coming against top-ranked Barry on February 9.
