Wolfer, Kouyate Highlight Men’s Tennis at C.L. Varner

Winter Park, Fla. – Lynn University’s men’s tennis team saw two players reach the finals of their flights and both doubles squads advance on the second day of the C.L. Varner Invitational.  Willi Wolfer will be playing in his second straight championship match while Max Kouyate won twice to advance to the finals of his flight.

Looking to capture his second consecutive title in the fall, Wolfer made quick work of his quarterfinals opponent, Aloua Adjenak of Saint Leo 6-2, 6-3, before defeating Peter Coulis from Flagler 6-0, 6-4 to reach the Flight A Finals.

Kouyate participated in three matches, starting the day by winning in doubles with Alessio Iannozzi 8-3.  He later was on top 6-3, 1- over Monitz Pronath before Pronath retired.  With the extra rest, Kouyate knocked off Santiago Lobelo 6-3, 6-0 to reach the finals of Flight C.

Pavel Mohja earned a singles victory over Jacobo Gonzales-Tarrio of Saint Leo to move into the semifinals of Flight B while Luca Pignatelli dropped his first match 7-6, 6-2 in Flight D but earned an amazing 7-6, 0-6, 19-17 victory in the consolation round.

Vlad Cirla fell 4-6, 7-6, 9-11 to Paul-Henri Arrigoni of Lander  and Iannozzi dropped a 4-6, 6-7 contest to Samuel Poutignat of Lander.

Additionally, Cirla and Mohja moved into the semifinals of the first doubles flight through default.

Play concludes at the C.L. Varner on Sunday, October 7, beginning at 8 a.m.
