Men’s Tennis Catches Tigers by the Toe

After suffering a heart-breaking loss in its last match against West Florida, Lynn University’s No. 5 men’s tennis team responded with a 9-0 throttling of the No. 22 Ouachita Baptist University Tigers on Friday.
Only one singles match went to a third set as Lynn (14-2) posted solid wins in every doubles match and Amaury Van Haelen collected his team-leading 13th win of the season.
Vlad Cirla and Willi Wolfer teamed up at the top doubles flight and dropped OBU’s Helge Knuth and Marvin Muller 8-4.
In number two doubles, Van Haelen and George Laffey composed their first win on the season with an 8-6 mark over Marko Boskovic and Kenny Brasil.
With a perfect 6-0 record on the season, the Italian doubles combo of Luca Pavanelli and Alessio Iannozzi dropped the Tigers’ Ramon Vasquez and Ernesto Martinez 8-4 at the third doubles flight.
With a 3-0 lead in the overall match, the Knights collected wins in all singles matches to complete the perfect 9-0 win.
At the top singles flight, No. 5 Wolfer defeated Boskovic 6-3, 6-2 while No. 12 Cirla beat Brasil 6-2, 6-4.
The only match of the day that went to a third set was number three singles where Max Kouyate tallied a 5-7, 6-3, 10-2 win over Vasquez.
In the fourth singles flight, No. 49 Pavanelli cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Muller as Iannozzi blanked Teodor Valentin 6-0, 6-0 in number five singles.
Van Haelen then completed play with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Martinez at number six singles.
The Fighting Knights host Florida Tech in one week on Friday, March 30, at 2 p.m. in their next match in a Sunshine State Conference contest.
