Mobile, Ala. -  Lynn University men’s tennis player Willi Wolfer dropped a hotly contested match against Hans Hach of Abilene Christian 6-4, 1-6, 4-6 in the semifinals of the USTA/ITA Small College Championship.  Wolfer will now face Daniele Piludu of Concordia in the third place match.

Facing off in a rematch of last year’s NCAA Division II Quarterfinals, Wolfer was able to get the upper hand on Hach in the opening set but the second-seeded player grabbed the next two sets to claim his second career victory over the Troisdorf, Germany, native.

Wolfer, a No. 3 seed, squares off against fourth-seeded Piludu at 8:30 a.m.  The Concordia player earned a first round victory over Kenny Brasil of Ouachita Baptist 6-3, 6-2 before falling to top-seed Georgi Rumenov of Armstrong Atlantic 6-2, 6-1.

The USTA/ITA National Small College Championships are comprised of the eight regional champions (and/or at-large selections) from NCAA Divisions II and III, NAIA and Junior/Community Colleges.  Singles and doubles champions at each divisional level will then compete to become the overall “Super Bowl” champions. The "Super Bowl" champions earn wild cards into the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships with the opportunity to win the culminating event held at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
