Wolfer Advances to Semifinals of Small College Championship
Mobile, Ala. – Lynn University men’s tennis player Willi Wolfer continued his successful fall with another dominating performance, this time at the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships. Wolfer advances to the national semifinals where he will face Hans Hach of Abilene Christian.
The No. 3 seed had little trouble dispatching Andy Blair of Drury. Wolfer broke Blair’s serve on three occasions to claim a 6-2 opening set victory. The Troisdorf, Germany, native was even more on his game in the second set, dropping just one game to win 6-1.
Friday’s match of Wolfer versus Hach at 10:30 a.m. CT will be a rematch from last year’s NCAA Division II Quarterfinals. Lynn knocked off Abilene Christian 5-3 but Hach earned a point at the No. 1 position over Wolfer.
The USTA/ITA National Small College Championships are comprised of the eight regional champions (and/or at-large selections) from NCAA Divisions II and III, NAIA and Junior/Community Colleges. Singles and doubles champions at each divisional level will then compete to become the overall “Super Bowl” champions. The "Super Bowl" champions earn wild cards into the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships with the opportunity to win the culminating event held at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
