LOUISVILLE, Ky.— After grabbing all three doubles matches, Lynn University’s No. 3 men’s tennis team cruised to a 5-0 win in the NCAA Championships Round of 16 over the University of Western New Mexico Mustangs on Wednesday.

With the win, Lynn improves to 21-3 on the year and with the three doubles victories, the Fighting Knights vault their doubles winning percentage to almost 80 percent.

Lynn’s third doubles flight of Benji Kendall and Alessio Iannozzi started the onslaught with an 8-2 win against UWNM’s Omar Lopez and Roy Ulibarri.

Lynn’s top doubles flight and third ranked tandem of Willi Wolfer and Vlad Cirla rolled out to a 3-0 advantage before the Mustangs Juan Pablo Fuentes and Johan Weich tied things up at 3-3. The LU combo then collected five of the next seven points to claim Lynn’s second point of the overall match.

In the second doubles flight, Lynn’s Amaury Van Haelen and Max Kouyate fell behind early but rallied to collect an 8-4 win over Rodrigo Almeida and Jean Benoit Belin to put the finishing touches on the doubles sweep.

With his 16th win of the year, No. 18 Cirla gave Lynn a 4-0 advantage in the overall match with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Fuentes at number two singles.

Racing to amass the next point in the match, Van Halen finished next with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Belin at the fifth singles flight  with Kendall and Iannozzi only one point away from victories.

Kendall, at number three singles, went up 6-3, 5-2 before the match reached completion while Iannozzi collected a 6-1, 5-2 advantage before Van Haelen finished off the Mustangs.

The Fighting Knights play the winner of the Abilene Christian and Northern Kentucky match tomorrow, May 17, at 1 p.m. Live stat coverage will be available for every Blue & White match.
