Winter Park, Fla. – Lynn University’s women’s tennis success continued with a singles and two doubles titles at the C.L. Varner Invitational. Valentine Confalonier was the big winner, staking her claim as the top singles and doubles team along with Ioana Ivan. Andrea Berkova and Kim Przeslowski also took top honors in the second doubles flight.
Confalonier was able to avenge her teammate and doubles partner in the singles Flight A final. Marlen Hacke of Armstrong Atlantic took down Ivan in the second round but stood little chance against Confalonier in a 6-2, 6-3 LU victory.
Lynn’s top doubles team took the court against No. 1 seed Lorbergs and Haraldson of UCF. Already winners of the USTA/ITA South Regional, Confalonier/Ivan added the C.L. Varner to their trophy case with an 8-4 victory.
The Fighting Knights then completed the doubles sweep following Berkova and Przeslowski’s 8-5 victory over Mendell/Eberhart ofUCF. An all Lynn Flight B Doubles final was nearly a reality but Anna Kriz and Alex Vukadinovic fell 8-6 in the semifinals.
Lynn’s lone championship heartbreak came via Berkova. The Jihlave, Czech Republic, native was not able to get past Josephine Haraldson, falling 6-2, 6-2.
The Fighting Knights will next take part in the ITA Small College Championship in Mobile, Ala.
